Favourite Music Video

INTERSTELLA | DAFT | PUNK

David Rees (@DavidReesArtist) is an artist of impeccable taste. We know this because of his choice of favourite music video but everyone else knows this through his portraits. Young beautiful women are transformed through unruly colours; a brashness juxtaposed by the soft gazes staring straight through you. If you don’t know, get to know on Instagram and Facebook before reading on.

Focusing on the finer things in life, David’s approach is somewhat looser explaining “It is so important when painting to not be afraid to make mistakes. I give myself free reign to be brave with how I paint, the more conservative I am the worse the final product is.” True to his word this can also be applied to the art of Kazuhisa Takenouchi the director of David’s favourite music video, Daft Punk’s ‘One More Time’. After bringing in their childhood hero Leiji Matsumoto as visual supervisor the feature-length ‘Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem’ went into production on a rumoured $4million budget.

Being fans of both Mr. Rees’ art and animation we were keen to hear what David had to say about this episode of Interstella 5555:

Right I think I’m going to go for Daft Punk – One More Time. I am a massive geek and Star Wars fan so it was also going to be something a bit sic-fi. This video has stadium rock Avatar’s before they were cool and then they go and get abducted by alien ninja, I mean that has to be the most nerdy video ever, and if in doubt its all anime. Also it always reminds me of the cartoon Ulysses 31 which I loved when I was little.

Word Is Cheap

word is cheap is the site to go to for all your music video needs. A site so visually stimulating it’s already banned in North Korea. You can dance if you want to.
